If a dealership is only as good as its technicians, one would be hard-pressed to find a dealership as good as ours. Our techs are the heart and soul of what we do here; they may not interact with customers during the car-buying process, but it is their gift with vehicles that enables us to stand behind the cars we sell, and their dedication to their craft that keeps our customers coming back.
One of the most remarkable techs we have is bringing his particular brand of genius and dedication to the competitive stage today. Chris May, a Master Technician at Butler Acura, is en route to Acura’s U.S. headquarters in Torrance, California to compete in the 2015 Acura TOPTECH challenge. TOPTECH pits Master Technicians from dealerships across the country against each other in a sort of automotive-repair obstacle course which requires techs to complete diagnoses and repairs accurately, carefully, and quickly at 8 different stations. It’s a little like ‘Top Chef,’ only with motor oil instead of olive oil.
Of the 150 Master Technicians in our region, which encompasses the entire West Coast, Chris was one of 8 techs invited to the regional final! He had to take a grueling, comprehensive test to qualify. Chris was humble in talking about his success, but Guy Fowler, our body shop manager, called Chris “one of the smartest people I’ve ever met.” We’re wishing Chris all the luck in world this weekend, and hoping his special brand of brilliance and attention to detail lets him win the day and qualify for the national finals.
