Kelley Blue Book (KBB) didn’t become the leading name in automotive valuation by accident, and that shows in the sheer amount of thought and effort that goes into their annual 5 Year Cost to Own Awards. Rather than simply gauging a vehicle’s predicted depreciation, they factor in fuel, maintenance, and repair costs, to boot.
The end result is a remarkably comprehensive study that, as KBB.com puts it, helps car shoppers save money “simply by choosing the right car to begin with.”
And for the second year in a row, the best luxury brand for 5-Year Cost to Own is Acura.
What is it about Acura’s philosophy that lends itself so well to this particular KBB award? We couldn’t have put it any better than Kelley Blue Book did themselves: “While value and luxury are often seen as mutually exclusive concepts, much of Acura’s appeal can be attributed to the fact that it delivers both.”
The prestige that comes with a traditional European luxury brand costs you a lot up front, a lot in immediate depreciation, and a lot in service and repairs. Acura’s lineup gives consumers everything they want in a luxury vehicle – quiet cabin, comfortable seats, state-of-the-art technology and safety features – at a lower initial price than the competition, and also holds its value better, costs less to repair, and needs to be repaired less frequently. That’s a pretty compelling recipe for affordable luxury.
So while only one Acura (we’re looking at you, NSX,) has a real shot at breaking lap times on the world’s most grueling racetracks, the rest of Acura’s lineup can hang with anyone out there for value proposition and true luxury. That’s our kind of lineup!
